Pregnant women are strongly advised to get the flu jab at any stage of pregnancy. Flu in pregnancy can cause serious complications for both the mother and the baby, including premature birth.
The flu vaccine is safe at every trimester and is recommended by the NHS and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. It also passes some protection to the newborn in the first few months of life.

When you arrive, one of our pharmacists will go through a short health check before the vaccination. This covers any allergies, current medications, and whether you have had a flu jab before.
The jab itself is given in the upper arm and takes seconds. Most patients feel nothing more than a brief scratch. There is no need to be nervous.
You do not need to prepare in any special way beforehand. Wear something loose or short-sleeved so your upper arm is easy to reach.
After the jab, we will ask you to stay for a few minutes just to make sure you feel well. Most people are on their way within ten minutes of arriving.
Side effects are usually mild and short-lived. They are a sign your immune system is responding to the vaccine. The most common ones include:
These reactions typically pass within 24 to 48 hours and do not require any treatment. Paracetamol can help if you feel achy or have a mild temperature.
It is worth knowing that the flu vaccine cannot give you the flu. It does not contain a live virus. If you feel unwell after the jab, it is your immune system doing its job.
Serious allergic reactions are very rare but can happen with any vaccine. Our pharmacist is trained to respond if this occurs. You will be asked to wait a short while after your jab as a precaution.
Not everyone qualifies for a free NHS flu jab. If you fall outside the eligibility criteria, a private flu vaccination is available to anyone aged 18 and over. Our flu vaccination price for a private jab is just £20 for the 2025 to 2026 season.

Yes. You do not need to be registered with a GP near our pharmacy. As long as you meet NHS eligibility criteria, we can vaccinate you regardless of which GP surgery you are registered with.
Yes. The seasonal flu vaccine is updated annually to match the flu strains most likely to circulate that winter. This is why you need a new jab every year, even if you had one last season.
It takes around two weeks for your immune system to build full protection after the jab. Getting vaccinated in October or early November gives you the best coverage for the peak flu season.
Yes, and it is a good idea. Flu circulates year-round in many countries. If you are travelling in autumn or winter, getting your flu vaccination before travel reduces your risk. Speak to our pharmacist about a full travel health review at the same time.
Children aged 2 to 3 years are eligible for the NHS nasal spray flu vaccine. Children from Reception class to Year 11 usually receive the vaccine through their school programme. Speak to us if you are unsure what applies to your child.
